For those who don’t know me personally or professionally, I’ll give you a little insight into me, and what you may expect to read here. Topics I will cover will range from the mainstream commercial tech to cutting edge topics and rumors, all the way to enterprise grade solutions. My hope is to introduce the average non-technical user to concepts and terminology they may not be familiar with, and also to bring my experiences as an IT professional out for discussion. I realize that saying I will sprinkle in some humor may not mix well with technology in your mind, but those who do know me, may get a chuckle here and there.
I’m first to admit that my years as a network engineer specializing in LAN/WAN and security devices are a little behind me. This falls right in line with what I want to accomplish, which is to stay away from the “hands-on” discussion I used to have around best practices for deploying a solution, and speak more about concepts, from a technology leaders’ perspective. Don’t get me wrong, if you attach me via a console cable to a router, switch, firewall, IPS device or otherwise, I will feel comfortable and will be able to get around, but likely won’t solve a highly technical issue at this point in my career.
My challenge has been that I have worn my management hat a long time now. The process of configuring and troubleshooting devices is not as warm a place as it used to be. With this blog I hope to enlighten you to the trials and tribulations of being an IT manager, the process I use for innovation and where from an end-user perspective I see various technologies going.
